The Thrive approach.

We look beyond a single symptom to understand the child, their development, their feeding or communication difficulties, and the context around them.

Listen carefully

Parents are often the first to notice a pattern. We begin by listening to what you are seeing at home and what matters most to you.

Look at the whole picture

Clinical assessment then helps us look more closely at the child’s skills, the demands of the situation and the factors that may be contributing. Feeding, oral function, communication, sensory experiences and motor development rarely sit in separate boxes. They can influence one another — and they are always shaped by the child’s stage, relationships and routines.

Explain the why

Clear clinical reasoning helps families understand what may be contributing and why a recommendation may help.

Individualise care

Recommendations are shaped by the child’s development, the family’s priorities and the circumstances in which difficulties are showing up. Recommendations need to work beyond the clinic — during real feeds, busy mornings, family meals and everyday communication. We focus on practical changes that can be understood, tried and sustained.

Work with families

We explain why something may help, demonstrate where useful and work with parents to adapt the plan as their child’s skills and needs change.

Collaborate with other professionals

Paediatricians, dentists, lactation professionals, occupational therapists, physiotherapists and other allied health professionals may all be part of a child’s support network. When it is appropriate, we may work alongside other professionals so that care is connected, communication is clear and everyone is working towards the same priorities.

Thoughtful and holistic care begins with understanding the whole picture.
